For immediate release: Jun 06, 2011Posted by: [DNR] Contact: Brad Bumgardner Phone: (219) 926-1390 Email: dnrnews@dnr.in.gov Singing Sands Star Show June 18 at Indiana Dunes State Park Indiana Dunes State Park Interpretive Services will be hosting the Singing Sands Star Show on Saturday, June 18 from 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. (CST) at the Indiana Dunes State Park Beach Pavilion. Stories on Native American sky lore will kick things off with the park interpretive naturalists. Astronomical society members will bring telescopes for deep space viewing, and share their expertise and passion for star gazing. By 9:30 p.m., the stars will begin to appear. A late rising full moon will offer un-paralleled viewing of the night sky over Lake Michigan. Constellation talks will highlight the many star formations that can be viewed over the dunes this time of year. The star gaze is co-sponsored by the Calumet Astronomical Society and the Chicago Astronomical Society. All activities are free. Park admission is $5 per vehicle for Indiana residents; $10 per vehicle for out-of-state visitors. For more information, call the Indiana Dunes Nature Center (219) 926-1390.
