Start Date: 9/6/2011 All Day
End Date: 9/6/2011
Entry Description
Saddle up your horses if you have them and head to the 6th annual Salamonie Riders Rendezvous Sept. 16-18. Those who don’t have horses but are interested in them are welcome, too.
Friday evening kicks off at 7:30 p.m. with cowboy coffee and cobbler. Bring a lawn chair, learn some history of cowboy coffee and enjoy a cup or two with Dutch oven cobbler.
Saturday morning begins with a presentation by Shane Wilcox of Crazy Horse Outfitters in Urbana, who will demonstrate how to pack a horse for wilderness adventures at 10 a.m. and share some tips for the trail.
Saturday afternoon is Salamonie Survivor. Riders and mounts will be tested on trail-riding skills and may pick up some new skills.
Guests who register can enjoy a prairie steamer meal Saturday evening. After the meal entertainment will be campfire for recitations from award-winning cowboy poet Dale Page.
Sunday morning starts with cowboy church. Wear boots, spurs and hats to this non-denominational worship service.
A used-tack flea market is offered Sunday morning at 10 a.m. Table space will be available for $5 to sell tack and other horse-related items. All rental proceeds go to the sponsors, the Upper Wabash Interpretive Service Friends group.
Those who don’t own horses can view the wide variety of horses; however, no rentals or rides will be available.
All activities take place in loop A of the Lost Bridge West Horseman’s Campground. Reserve a campsite to take in all activities or come out for a day.
Registration is required to enjoy the food portions of the program. Fee is $2 per person.
